How healthy are your horse’s hooves? The following are general indicators of good equine hoof health:

lustrous, naturally glossy hoof wall
smooth, uniform hoof wall free from cracks, rings, flares, etc.
hoof wall with a thickness of about 3/8″ that tapers smoothly towards the heel
rubbery, resilient frog twice as long as it is wide without deep cracks
concave sole that only touches a shoe or pavement where it joins the wall
hoof that sheds dust, mud, and water
