How healthy are your horse’s hooves? The following are general indicators of good equine hoof health:

  • lustrous, naturally glossy hoof wall
  • smooth, uniform hoof wall free from cracks, rings, flares, etc.
  • hoof wall with a thickness of about 3/8″ that tapers smoothly towards the heel
  • rubbery, resilient frog twice as long as it is wide without deep cracks
  • concave sole that only touches a shoe or pavement where it joins the wall
  • hoof that sheds dust, mud, and water
